# Anbernic RG35XX custom firmware — how to install ArkOS, GarlicOS, or MinUI

Your Anbernic RG35XX (or RG35XX H / Plus / SP) runs the stock firmware but it has limited emulator cores, a slow scraper, or games that refuse to launch. You want to install a community custom firmware (CFW) for a better experience.

The Anbernic RG35XX line ships with a Linux-based custom OS that covers the basics but lags behind community alternatives in core selection, UI quality, and system compatibility. Three community custom firmwares are the most used:

MinUI — the simplest and most focused. A clean list-based UI with zero friction, no scraper, no themes. Boots fast. Best for users who want to play immediately without configuring anything.
GarlicOS — EmulationStation-based UI styled after the Miyoo Mini experience. Good scraping support, theme-able, broader core selection than stock. Wide community support.
ArkOS — RetroArch-based, highest core count, supports dual SD-card setup. Best for users who want maximum system compatibility (PS1, N64, Sega Saturn lite, ports).

All three replace the firmware on the SD card — they do not modify internal storage, so reverting to stock is always a matter of re-flashing the original card.
