# BlueStacks won't open or shows black screen — crash fix

BlueStacks launches but immediately shows a black screen, crashes before the home screen loads, or refuses to open at all — even after a fresh install.

You are hitting one of these:

BlueStacks icon opens, then nothing happens — no window appears, or a splash screen flashes and disappears
Black screen after the BlueStacks logo — the spinner runs forever or the window freezes solid
Crash immediately on startup — Windows shows "BlueStacks has stopped working" or the process silently dies in Task Manager
"Virtualization is disabled" or "Hardware acceleration unavailable" error shown inside BlueStacks or at the BlueStacks engine setup screen
BlueStacks installed but games still won't load — the home screen appears but tapping any game results in a black screen

Why this happens: BlueStacks runs Android in a hardware-accelerated virtual machine. It requires both CPU virtualization (Intel VT-x or AMD-V enabled in BIOS) and a working GPU driver. If Windows Hyper-V, Memory Integrity (HVCI), or Windows Sandbox is active, those features can claim the virtualization extensions exclusively and starve BlueStacks of hardware access. Outdated GPU drivers and corrupt install remnants from a previous BlueStacks version are the two other leading causes.

Work through each fix in order. Most users resolve the issue at step 1 or step 2.
