# Mesen HD Pack not working — not activating, wrong folder name, or graphics unchanged

Mesen HD Packs replace NES sprites and backgrounds with high-resolution artwork, making classic games like Super Mario Bros., Mega Man 2, and Kirby's Adventure look dramatically sharper. When an HD Pack installs correctly, it activates automatically — no settings toggle needed. If the game still looks pixel-native after installing a pack, something in the folder structure or Mesen preferences is misconfigured.

Common symptoms that bring users here:

"Installed the HD Pack but the game looks the same" — the pack is present but not loading.
"Mesen says 'HD Pack not found' when loading the game" — the subfolder name does not match what Mesen expects.
"HD Pack folder is set but no games load packs" — the HD Packs root folder path is not configured in Mesen's preferences.
"Pack downloaded, extracted, but Mesen ignores it" — the HdPack/hd.info file path is incorrect.

The most common cause is a subfolder name mismatch. Mesen matches HD Packs to games by the game's internal header name, not the ROM filename. The required subfolder name is often different from the ROM filename you see in File Explorer.
