CODM disconnects after wifi drops — emulator can't reconnect (full kill required)
After a brief network disconnect (a few seconds of wifi drop, ISP blip, or VPN reconnect), CODM through TAC refuses to reconnect to matchmaking — even after the user's network is restored. Common framing:
"my net disconnected once like 30 mins ago so now i cant play"
Symptoms:
- "obviously network is back, i restarted" — caesarsalad
- Restarting wifi router doesn't help.
- Restarting Windows doesn't help.
- Closing CODM but leaving TAC running doesn't help.
- The emulator continues to show stale "Connection lost" UI even though network test confirms connectivity.
Root cause: TAC keeps a stale TCP connection state in its internal network engine. Standard process restart doesn't reset the engine — only a complete kill of every TAC subprocess does.
Solutions
Solution 1
Kill the emulator completely via Task Manager, then relaunch. Per leonmaxitv1's canonical fix:
- Open Task Manager → Details tab.
- Sort by name; end every process containing "tac", "gameloop", "AndrowsConnect", or "AOWEmulator".
- Wait 10 seconds for cleanup.
- Relaunch via the Smart Tool's Launch CODM button (NOT the desktop shortcut).
Solution 2
If kill+relaunch alone doesn't restore connection, connect to a VPN. Sometimes the matchmaker server has the stale session marked as "still alive" and refuses the new connection from the same IP. A VPN gives you a fresh IP and the matchmaker treats it as a clean session.
Solution 3
If the issue persists, restart the router AND the PC. Some ISPs hand out new IPs only after a full reboot of both devices. Order matters:
- Power off the wifi router.
- Shut down the PC.
- Wait 60 seconds.
- Power on the router; wait for full sync.
- Power on the PC; relaunch via Smart Tool.
