Keymapping Reset After CODM Season 8 Update on GameLoop — How to Restore Your Settings
After installing the Call of Duty: Mobile Season 8 "ERROR 404" update (launched September 3, 2026), a large number of GameLoop players are reporting that their custom keymapping has been wiped and replaced with the emulator's default layout. The issue is not caused by any change CODM made to its controls — Season 8 does not alter keymapping behavior on the game side.
This is a long-standing GameLoop quirk: when CODM updates its APK, GameLoop detects a new game version signature and treats the installation as a fresh game entry. That version-check triggers an automatic reset of the user's keymapping layer, discarding any custom key assignments that were tied to the previous APK version. The underlying game data and your account progress are untouched — only the PC keymapping configuration is affected.
Smart Keymap users (GameLoopHub's browser-based config tool) may or may not have been affected depending on which version of Smart Keymap they are running. If Smart Keymap wrote your config to a named profile before the update, that profile should still be recoverable from within GameLoop's keymapping panel. If it only modified the "default" slot, that slot has likely been overwritten.
The good news is that recovery is straightforward if you saved a profile beforehand — and if you did not, a clean rebuild takes under ten minutes once you know which keys to target. Work through the solutions below in order and stop at the first one that gets you back into the game.

solution #2095
Restore from a saved keymapping profile (sortOrder=1, isMostHelpful)
**Load your pre-update profile from the GameLoop keymapping panel**
1. Open GameLoop and launch Call of Duty: Mobile.
2. Once the game is running, click the **keyboard icon** in the GameLoop sidebar (right-hand floating toolbar) to open the keymapping panel.
3. Inside the keymapping panel, click the **folder/profile icon** (top-right area of the panel — it looks like a file stack or a save icon).
4. A list of your saved profiles appears. Select the profile you were using before the update.
5. Click **Apply** (or **Load**, depending on your GameLoop version).
6. Close the panel and verify your keys are back in place by moving around in a training match.
If the profile list is empty or only shows "Default," you did not have a profile saved — move to S2 or S3.

Re-import from GameLoopHub Smart Keymap (sortOrder=2)
**Restore your layout using a Smart Keymap JSON export file**
1. Open your browser and go to **gameloophub.com/smart-keymap** (or wherever you originally built your Smart Keymap config).
2. If you previously exported your config as a `.json` file, locate it on your PC (check your Downloads folder or wherever you saved it).
3. Back in GameLoop, open the keymapping panel (keyboard icon in the sidebar).
4. Click the **Import** button inside the keymapping panel.
5. Navigate to and select your Smart Keymap `.json` file, then confirm the import.
6. Click **Apply** and test in a training match to confirm all bindings loaded correctly.
If you never exported a JSON file from Smart Keymap, skip to S3.

Manually rebuild your TAC keymapping from scratch (sortOrder=3)
**Reconfigure all key bindings by hand using the standard TAC layout**
1. Open GameLoop, launch CODM, and open the keymapping panel (keyboard icon).
2. Start from the default layout and reassign the following core control areas:
- **Movement:** W / A / S / D (forward, left, back, right)
- **Aim / Fire:** Mouse movement (aim), Left Mouse Button (fire)
- **ADS (Aim Down Sight):** Right Mouse Button
- **Sprint:** Left Shift (hold)
- **Crouch:** C or Left Ctrl
- **Prone:** Z
- **Jump:** Space
- **Grenade / Lethal:** G
- **Tactical Equipment:** T (common default)
- **Scorestreak / Killstreak:** B
- **Reload:** R
- **Weapon Switch:** Mouse scroll wheel or 1 / 2
- **Map / Minimap:** M
3. Adjust any personal preferences (e.g., melee key, ping key) on top of this base.
4. Once done, immediately save the layout as a named profile (see S4) so you are protected before S9.

solution #2098
Save a keymapping profile now — before Season 9 (sortOrder=4)
**Export your current layout to a named profile so the next season update can't wipe it**
1. With your keymapping configured, open the keymapping panel (keyboard icon in GameLoop sidebar).
2. Click the **folder/profile icon** (same one used to load profiles in S1).
3. Choose **Save As** or **New Profile** and give it a descriptive name — e.g., `CODM_TAC_S8`.
4. Confirm the save.
5. Optionally, also click **Export** (if your GameLoop version supports JSON export) and save the `.json` file to a folder you'll remember — this gives you a second backup compatible with Smart Keymap.
6. Before every future season update, repeat this step so you always have a current saved profile to fall back on.

solution #2099
Understand why this happens — TAC mode itself is unchanged (sortOrder=5)
**Clarify: S8 did not change CODM's TAC controls; this is purely a GameLoop version-detection issue**
1. Open CODM on GameLoop and navigate to **Settings → Controls** inside the game.
2. Confirm that your in-game TAC control presets are still intact — they will be, because CODM stores those server-side or in local game data that is separate from GameLoop's keymapping layer.
3. The reset you experienced happened entirely within GameLoop's own keymapping database, triggered by it detecting a new APK signature during the S8 patch.
4. No Season 8 patch notes mention any control-scheme changes, and the TAC button layout is identical to S7 — so once your GameLoop keymapping is restored, nothing else needs adjustment.
5. If future updates also reset your keymapping, this is always the same root cause. The permanent fix is maintaining a saved profile (S4) and re-importing it after each major update.
