CODM Season 8 ERROR 404 Voice Chat / Mic Not Working on GameLoop PC — Fix Guide 2026
Call of Duty Mobile Season 8 "ERROR 404" launched on September 3, 2026. Like every major update before it, the new season triggers a spike in voice chat and microphone reports on GameLoop PC — teammates can't hear you, you can't hear them, or the mic icon stays locked in CODM's UI despite being physically connected. Season 8 itself introduced no specific microphone changes; what changes is that the update process disrupts audio device state, UAC permissions, and app-layer device locks, exposing underlying emulator-and-Windows configuration gaps that were silently working before.
The root cause almost always sits at one of three layers: Windows hasn't designated the right default recording device, GameLoop's audio passthrough can't grab the device because another app holds an exclusive lock, or Windows Privacy settings are blocking GameLoop from accessing the microphone at all. CODM's own in-game voice settings are a secondary factor — the game defaults to push-to-talk or restricted audience settings that people discover only after fixing the OS layer.
GameLoop communicates with the Windows audio subsystem through a software bridge. If Windows reports the wrong default recording device, or if another application (Discord, Teams, a browser) has locked the device in exclusive mode, GameLoop sees no usable input — and CODM silently disables voice chat rather than showing an explicit error. The fix sequence below starts at the OS layer where the problem almost always originates, then works inward to CODM's own settings.

**Set the correct default microphone in Windows Sound settings and verify GameLoop passthrough**
GameLoop reads whichever device Windows designates as the default recording device. If Windows has drifted to a different input (a monitor's built-in mic, a headset that's now unplugged, a virtual audio device), GameLoop passes silence through to CODM regardless of what you configure inside the game.
1. Right-click the speaker icon in the Windows taskbar → **Sound settings** (Windows 11) or **Sounds** (Windows 10 → Recording tab).
2. In the **Input** section (Win 11) or **Recording** tab (Win 10), find your actual microphone in the list.
3. Right-click it → **Set as Default Device** and also **Set as Default Communication Device**.
4. Click **Properties** → **Levels** — make sure the input level slider is at 80–100 and not muted.
5. Speak into the mic and watch the green bar in the Sound settings window. If it moves, Windows is receiving audio.
6. Open GameLoop → Settings (gear icon, top-right) → **Engine Settings** → confirm **Microphone** is enabled.
7. Launch CODM and test voice in a training room.
If the green bar in step 5 doesn't move, the issue is a hardware or driver problem — jump to S6. If it moves but CODM still has no voice, continue to S2.

codm-voice-settings (sortOrder=2)
**Check CODM in-game voice chat settings**
CODM defaults to push-to-talk with a restricted audience on new installs and after some update resets. Even if the mic is working at the OS level, CODM won't transmit until voice chat is enabled and the audience is set correctly.
1. Launch CODM and reach the main lobby.
2. Tap the **Settings** gear (top-right of the lobby screen).
3. Go to **Audio** → **Voice Chat**.
4. Set **Voice Chat** to **On**.
5. Set **Voice Chat Mode** to **Open Mic** (not Push to Talk, unless you have a PTT key bound).
6. Set **Default Channel** to **Team** (or **Everyone** for battle royale modes where squad-only is limiting).
7. Set **Microphone Volume** and **Voice Chat Volume** both above 50.
8. Back in the lobby, confirm the mic icon in the top-left is white (active), not crossed out.
Push-to-talk users: confirm your PTT key binding under **Settings → Controls → Voice Chat Button** — a reset update can unbind it silently.

run-as-admin (sortOrder=3)
**Restart GameLoop with Run as Administrator**
Windows UAC can block GameLoop's audio service from accessing recording devices, particularly on Windows 11 machines with strict security policies. A season update that triggers a UAC re-evaluation is a common cause of mic access silently disappearing after a previously working setup.
1. Fully close GameLoop — right-click the system tray icon → **Exit** (not just close the window).
2. Find the GameLoop shortcut on your desktop or in the Start menu.
3. Right-click → **Run as administrator** → click **Yes** when UAC prompts.
4. Launch CODM and test the mic.
To make administrator mode permanent so it survives reboots:
- Right-click the GameLoop shortcut → **Properties** → **Compatibility** tab → check **Run this program as an administrator** → **Apply**.

windows-privacy-mic-permission (sortOrder=4)
**Grant microphone permission to GameLoop in Windows Privacy settings**
Windows 10 and 11 have a per-app microphone permission gate under Privacy settings. GameLoop and any app it launches (including CODM) must be explicitly allowed to access the microphone. A Windows update or a fresh Windows installation can reset these permissions without warning.
1. Open **Windows Settings** (Win + I).
2. Go to **Privacy & Security** (Win 11) or **Privacy** (Win 10) → **Microphone**.
3. Ensure **Microphone access** is toggled **On** at the top.
4. Under **Let apps access your microphone**, ensure this is also **On**.
5. Scroll down to **Let desktop apps access your microphone** and ensure it is **On** — GameLoop is a desktop app, not a Store app, so it falls under this section.
6. Restart GameLoop and test.
On Windows 11: if you see GameLoop or Tencent listed individually with its own toggle, make sure that toggle is also enabled.

close-apps-holding-mic (sortOrder=5)
**Close other applications that may have an exclusive lock on the microphone**
Discord, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and browser-based video apps routinely request exclusive microphone access. When they hold that lock, Windows audio routing prevents any other application — including GameLoop — from receiving audio from the same device. This is a very common cause of mic suddenly not working after a game update, because people often have Discord open while patching CODM.
1. Close **Discord** completely — right-click the Discord tray icon → **Quit Discord** (not just minimize).
2. Close **Teams**, **Zoom**, **Skype**, or any browser tab with an active audio session.
3. Optional but effective: open **Task Manager** (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) → check the **Processes** tab for any remaining audio-related processes (RTCPeerService, audiodg overload, etc.) and end them.
4. Restart GameLoop after closing these apps.
5. Launch CODM and test mic.
If you need Discord running alongside CODM: go to Discord → **User Settings → Voice & Video** → turn off **Exclusive Mode** and **Hardware Acceleration**. This tells Discord to release the mic for shared access.
solution #2105
reinstall-audio-driver (sortOrder=6)
**Reinstall the audio driver (last resort — for persistent hardware-level failures)**
If the green input level bar in Windows Sound settings never moves regardless of what app is open, the audio driver itself is the problem. This can happen after a Windows update overwrites a vendor-specific driver with a generic Microsoft one, or after a GameLoop update that modifies audio subsystem bindings.
1. Open **Device Manager** (Win + X → Device Manager).
2. Expand **Sound, video and game controllers**.
3. Right-click your microphone or audio device → **Update driver** → **Search automatically**. Let Windows find and install any available update.
4. If no update is found, or the mic still doesn't work: right-click the device → **Uninstall device** → check **Delete the driver software for this device** → **Uninstall**.
5. Restart Windows. Windows will automatically reinstall a baseline driver on reboot.
6. After reboot, go to your PC or motherboard manufacturer's website (or your headset/soundcard brand) and download the latest driver for your specific model. Install it.
7. Return to Windows Sound settings and confirm the mic input level responds to your voice.
8. Relaunch GameLoop and test CODM voice chat.
If you are on a laptop, check the manufacturer's support page (Dell, ASUS, Lenovo, HP) — realtek and conexant drivers for laptops are not always found by Windows Update and must be downloaded manually.
