CODM throwables (grenade Q) keep firing without keypress — keybind overlap fix

While playing CODM in TAC, throwables (grenades / smokes / flashes — usually bound to Q) keep appearing in the throw arc without the user pressing the key. The grenade is wasted on every match, sometimes mid-firefight, costing the round. Reported framing:

"the throwables on mp it seems bugging like even if i dont press q its still showing up"

Symptoms:

  • Q-bound throwable keeps activating randomly during movement.
  • The throw arc preview appears even when no key is pressed.
  • Worse at non-1920×1080 resolutions (1440p, 4K, ultrawide).
  • Doesn't happen at default resolution.

Solutions

Solution 1

Move the Ctrl keybind to a different location on the keymap. Per ӃryptønPsychø's fix: at higher or non-16:9 resolutions, the Ctrl keybind's touch zone can overlap the Q (throwables) button's touch zone. Even though Q hasn't been pressed, mouse movement near the Ctrl region triggers a touch input on Q because the zones share screen pixels.

  1. Open TAC's in-emulator keymap editor (not the Smart Tool — the in-emu editor).
  2. Find the Ctrl keybind position.
  3. Drag it to a different on-screen location (right side of the screen, away from any throwable button).
  4. Save the keymap.
  5. Restart the match — the throwable should no longer auto-fire.

Solution 2

Or set emulator resolution to 1920×1080. The keymap touch zones are calibrated for 16:9 1080p. At 1440p, 4K, or ultrawide ratios, button positions get re-mapped to the new resolution and overlaps appear. If you don't need higher resolution for visual quality, dropping to 1080p eliminates the overlap entirely.

Solution 3

Download the latest community keymap from #en-support-cod-mobile. ӃryptønPsychø continually updates posted keymaps to fix overlap regressions when CODM updates change menu positions. Always grab the latest one rather than reusing an old one — outdated keymaps are the most common source of "but it worked yesterday" frustration.
