How to find your TAC / New GameLoop version number — there is no UI for it

Unlike most software, TAC ("New GameLoop") has no visible version number anywhere in its UI. There's no "About" screen, no "Help → About", no "Check for updates" button. This makes troubleshooting harder — when a support agent asks "what version are you on?" you have no easy way to answer. Reported framing:

"Anyone know if TAC auto-updates? I don't see a 'check for updates' or even a version number anywhere." — BuffPuffer

Confirmed by leonmaxitv1: "i can assure you there arent any. it hasnt got patched once yet." Tencent intentionally hides the version because TAC auto-updates silently — they don't want users opting out of updates. But you CAN find it via the diagnostics log if you need it for a support ticket.

Solutions

Solution 1

Find the version in TAC's Diagnostics log. Per BuffPuffer's discovery:

  1. Open TAC.
  2. 4-squares emulator menu → Settings → Help / Diagnostics (exact label varies).
  3. Click "Generate report" or "Open log file".
  4. The log file opens in Notepad. Search (Ctrl+F) for GameLoop Version: — you'll see something like:
    GameLoop Version: 7.0.19.01
  5. That's your installed version.

Solution 2

Or check the install folder name. TAC installs each version to a sub-folder named after the version number:

  1. Open File Explorer → navigate to C:\Program Files\AOWEmulator\ (or wherever TAC installed — sometimes %LOCALAPPDATA%\AOWEmulator\).
  2. You'll see one or more sub-folders named like 7.0.19.01, 7.0.20.01, etc.
  3. The most recently modified folder is the active version.

Solution 3

Or use Task Manager → Details → Properties.

  1. Open Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) → Details tab.
  2. Right-click on TAC's running process (AOWEmulator.exe / AndrowsConnect.exe) → Properties.
  3. Details tab → "File version" field shows the version.

Solution 4

About patch notes: TAC doesn't publish them. Per leonmaxitv1: "i can assure you there arent any. it hasnt got patched once yet." The legacy GameLoop hadn't been updated for 3+ months as of May 2026. TAC silently updates but doesn't document what changed. If you need to know whether your version has a specific bug fixed, ask in GameLoopHub Discord — community members track behavioral changes between versions even though official changelogs don't exist.
