How to Set Up Eden on Android — Nintendo Switch Emulator Guide 2026

Low4 solutions

I want to play Nintendo Switch games on my Android phone using Eden, which is now on the Google Play Store. How do I install it, where do I get prod.keys and firmware, and what performance settings should I use to get games running well? My device is a recent flagship phone.

Install Eden on Android

Eden is the leading Nintendo Switch emulator in 2026 and the first Switch emulator accepted onto the Google Play Store (January 2026).

  • Google Play (recommended): search "Eden emulator" and install from the official listing. Verify the publisher matches the Eden project's own site (eden-emu.dev) before installing.
  • Official APK: download from eden-emu.dev only — not from any other source. The Play Store listing may lag a few days behind the latest release. To install: Settings → Apps → Special app access → Install unknown apps → grant permission to your browser, then open the downloaded APK.

Red flags for a fake Eden APK: any site other than eden-emu.dev or the Play Store; APKs bundled with prod.keys/firmware/game files; sites with lookalike domain names.

Device Requirements

Switch emulation is the most demanding workload in mobile emulation.

  • Minimum (lighter titles): Snapdragon 865 / equivalent ARM Cortex-A77-class; Adreno 650 / Mali-G77 MP11 or equivalent; 8 GB RAM; Android 10+. Vulkan 1.1 is a hard requirement — Eden has no OpenGL fallback on Android.
  • Recommended (smooth on most titles): Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 or newer; 12 GB RAM; 128 GB+ free storage on internal memory or fast UFS 3.1+ microSD.

Obtain prod.keys and Firmware (Required)

Eden on Android requires the same two files as the PC version:

  • prod.keys — decryption keys dumped from your own Nintendo Switch using tools like Lockpick_RCM from within a custom firmware environment
  • Firmware files — Switch system firmware dumped from your own console using Tegra Explorer

EmuDesk does not host, link to, or describe sources for pre-dumped keys or firmware. For full context on what these files are and why they are required, see prod.keys not found / firmware missing — what they are and the legal way to obtain them.

Transfer and place files:

  • Copy files via USB cable (Android file transfer mode) or any cloud method to internal storage
  • Open Eden → ≡ menu → Open Eden User Directory → navigate to keys/ (create the folder if absent) → paste prod.keys there
  • Install firmware: ≡ menu → Settings → System → Install Firmware → navigate to the firmware zip and confirm. Takes 30–60 seconds.

Add games: after placing keys and installing firmware, tap Add Game Directory and select the folder containing your Switch game files (.xci or .nsp). Eden scans and displays your library.

Open Settings (gear icon or ≡ menu) and configure these options:

Graphics → API
Vulkan is the only option on Android — there is no OpenGL fallback. It should be selected by default; confirm it is.

Graphics → Resolution

  • 0.5× (half-native, ~360p): only for very low-end devices; expect noticeable blur
  • 1× (native Switch, 720p handheld / up to 1080p TV): the starting point. Test here first. Recommended for most users.
  • 2× (~1440p): only attempt on Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 / Dimensity 9200 or better — very GPU-demanding

Start at 1× and increase only if your device sustains a stable 30 or 60 fps. Raising resolution while already struggling makes performance worse.

Graphics → Asynchronous Shader Compilation — Enable this. Switch games compile Vulkan shaders on the fly. Without async compilation, every new scene freezes while shaders are built. With it enabled, the game runs at reduced visual quality during compilation instead of freezing. Freezes diminish after the first play session as the shader cache builds.

Graphics → GPU Accuracy Level

  • Normal: best performance, compatible with almost all titles. Start here.
  • High: fixes certain graphical issues (shadows, water, particle effects in some titles) at 20–40% higher GPU cost. Switch to High only if you see specific graphical corruption in a game that otherwise runs well.

System → Handheld Mode vs. TV Mode
Switch games have two rendering profiles. Handheld mode targets 720p at reduced GPU load; TV mode targets 900p–1080p at higher cost. On Android, Handheld mode gives better performance on all but the most powerful devices. Use TV mode only on large tablets with strong hardware where you want the higher-quality output.

controller-and-thermal-management (sortOrder=3)

Bluetooth Controller (Recommended)

Pair your controller in Android Bluetooth settings before opening Eden. Eden uses Android's standard gamepad API — Xbox, 8BitDo Ultimate, DualSense, DualShock 4, and Switch Pro Controllers all work automatically. Switch Pro Controllers may need manual button remapping in Settings → Controls → Player 1 if labels differ.

USB-C wired controller: connect via OTG adapter. Android recognizes it immediately; assign in Settings → Input → Player 1 if auto-detection doesn't map it.

Touchscreen Overlay

Tap the controller icon during gameplay to toggle the touchscreen overlay. Resize and reposition buttons in the overlay editor — useful for puzzle games or visual novels with few inputs. Disable the overlay entirely when using a physical controller for a clean view.

Motion Controls

Many Switch games use gyroscope input. Eden on Android can use your device's built-in gyroscope. Enable in Settings → Controls → Motion Controls and calibrate with the device held flat.

Thermal Management (Critical for Switch Emulation)

Switch emulation is one of the most thermally intensive mobile tasks. Most devices thermal-throttle after 30–40 minutes — resulting in sudden frame rate drops even after a smooth start.

  • Play in a cool room — ambient temperature makes a measurable difference
  • Remove the phone case — many cases trap heat significantly
  • Use a clip-on cooling fan accessory — inexpensive and extends sustained performance noticeably
  • Take 5-minute breaks every 40–50 minutes to let the device recover
  • Lower resolution proactively from 1× to 0.75× before the thermal limit is reached — costs less image quality than the frame rate cliff after full throttling

Common Issues

  • Game won't launch — "Missing keys" error: prod.keys not in the keys/ folder inside Eden's user directory, or the file is outdated for newer titles. Place prod.keys in Eden User Directory → keys/; update to a newer dump if the game was released after your keys' dump date.
  • Black screen after loading: firmware missing or too old for this title. Reinstall via Settings → System → Install Firmware with a newer firmware dump.
  • Severe frame rate drops after 30–40 minutes: thermal throttling. Remove case, cool the device, switch to Handheld mode, lower resolution to 0.75×.
  • Freezes at the start of every new area: shader cache empty or async shader compilation disabled. Enable Asynchronous Shader Compilation in Graphics settings; freezes diminish as the cache builds.
  • Controller buttons recognized but wrong layout: go to Settings → Controls → Player 1 and remap manually.
  • NSP file launches but DLC or saves missing: NSP title installed without the correct ticket (.tik file) from your own console dump.
  • Eden crashes immediately on launch: device doesn't support Vulkan 1.1 (hard requirement). Check Vulkan version with a GPU info app.
  • Game at wrong aspect ratio on tablet: switch to TV mode in System settings on large tablets for correct 16:9 output.
  • Storage permission denied, games not found: Settings → Apps → Eden → Permissions → Files and media → change to "All files" (Android 13+).

What runs well vs. demanding:

  • Runs well on mid-range hardware: 2D and indie titles (Hollow Knight, Celeste, Dead Cells); older 3D titles (Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Kirby Star Allies, Pokémon Sword/Shield) on Snapdragon 865+ at Handheld mode 1×
  • High-end only: Breath of the Wild / Tears of the Kingdom (25–40 fps on Snapdragon 8 Gen 1; 40–60 fps on 8 Gen 3); Xenoblade Chronicles series; modern third-party ports
